Master Bedroom

I think the master bedroom is really where I discovered my decorating style. I'd show you all the before pictures of the evolution that is the master bedroom, but that would just be too many pictures in one post lol. I would classify my sense of decorating style as rustic/industrial with just a ever so small sprinkling of farmhouse style(thanks a lot Joanna Gaines for that last one! haha). I really try keeping my husband in mind when it comes to my decorating, after all I do share this space with him. In the beginning of our marriage, our bedroom was a kind of a woodsy theme. Lots of elements from the outdoors were applied to it. It almost took on this boho/woodsy vibe. It was nice for a hot minute, but I knew it didn't represent our true style properly.

This is how I officially learned what my decorating style truly was. You know that show Fixer Upper?...yeah, I thought so lol. In a lot of the episodes, Joanna would implement what I considered to be rustic and industrial touches throughout certain homes. I was immediately intrigued. I really loved the dark rich woods mixed with the iron and metals. So like many, I hopped along on the bandwagon and I decided our home was going to be farmhouse style. Well, that didn't quite work out completely. I had to take several steps back and really think. Do I really like all this white in the space and this country farmhouse vibe I've got going? The answer was no. The sad thing is, I  already understood that I liked the industrial/rustic style. So why did I think country farmhouse was the way to go!? You live you learn right?

Around the time I realized this style wasn't me, we were in the middle of a move. This allowed me plenty of time to come up with new ideas for what our future home could look like. I knew instantly that I wanted to paint the walls grey. A moody, cozy grey. I also knew I was drawn to the industrial/rustic look and It was a style my husband could get behind. I knew I would start designing the master bedroom first, because the bedroom is our sanctuary at the beginning of the day and at the end of it and I wanted it to be one of the coziest spaces in the home. We already had great pieces of furniture and decor, so there was no need to completely start from scratch. I just worked with what I already had.  So while the country farmhouse look wasn't completely for me, there were still elements about it that I enjoyed. I made sure to apply some of that design to our current home, but just not in over abundance like I did with the last one.

It's really been a long journey to get where my style is today. However a house doesn't become a home overnight. You can't just rush out to the store's and create a full space in one night and think you're going to be permanently happy with your design choices. I think it's important to start with a foundation as to what your style is. Do you like contemporary, traditional, modern, the farmhouse look? Start there, because that's what you will design your home around. Sometimes a few styles get mixed together and that's great! In fact I encourage that! It gives the room diversity and doesn't look completely uniform. Sometimes it takes outside sources such as magazines, books, television shows and even our friends to help inspire us with discovering our designing style.

Well my friends, I hope you enjoyed this post. I thank you kindly for once again, taking the time out of your day and stopping by! You all are the best!!

Sincerely,
Alexsa

Below is a picture of some furniture and decor from our previous home. This was taken just days before the movers came. I set everything up like this, because I knew these were some of the things I was going to style my home around. Our new home was going to have that rustic/industrial feel!

Based off the picture below, I'd say I hit the nail on the head when it comes to the master bedroom. As for the the rest of the house? Well my friends, that's for a different blog post, because there's stories there. Currently our bedroom has the moody grey walls, the cozy bedding and touches of light and warm shades so that the room doesn't feel too cold. It's absolutely one of my most favorite rooms in the entire home and for the most part, the only room that hasn't changed in style. I like to make the joke that I'm staying over at my boyfriends house, because to me it has a masculine bachelor vibe going on, but I'm totally into it! Honestly, I purposely intended for the room to feel that way. I made sure to add some feminine touches, but I really do enjoy the moodiness that is this our bedroom.

Most all the bedding you see here is from Target. The plaid pillow is part of Kirkland's current fall collection. I like to play around with different layers and textures. Recently I added this burnt pumpkin throw blanket to add color to the entire space and help break up some of the darker tones. The scrabble tiles to the left are a DIY and it is actually a song title from the band Nada Surf.

I'm absolutely in love with how this entire wall turned out. Over the years I have collected various apothecary jars as well as globes. The blue globe is one of my favorites. It's an antique that my Mother let me have. The canvas artwork was also another one of my DIYs.

A closer look on how I styled the dresser.

This is my little office space. I was told by a friend that it gives off Sherlock Holmes vibes, lol.
The skeleton wall art and skull is part of Michael's Halloween collection, but it's been decided that it will all stay up year round. This space is also where I display my wedding photo's.
